Rolling Stock course gets military stamp of approval

Anyone leaving the forces should be familiar with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP); this is a free-of-charge service designed to help forces leavers’ transition from the military into their civilian life/career.

My opinions on the CTP are out-dated; having left the MoD 15 years ago I’d like to think the service has improved somewhat since then. I speak to a lot of forces leavers and it seems to me that there are mixed opinions about the service offered today.

Regardless of my opinions, one part of the service I think is really useful is the funding that is made available to forces levers for training. Put simply, it’s a pot of MoD money allocated to forces leavers; they can use this money pay for certain training courses designed to help ‘smooth out’ the transition into a civilian industry. In typical military fashion, the rules are administered within a two-part JSP (Joint Service Publication) consisting of over 150 pages (JSP 534 for those that are interested).

Training providers (like OnlinerailCourses.co.uk) apply to the CTP to have their training courses added to the list of MoD preferred training providers. Meaning it becomes much easier for forces leavers to spend their resettlement money with them.

Last year the CTP got in touch with me in relation to the Introduction-to-Rolling Stock course and e-learning platform. They told me that they had seen the course advertised and that they would like to add it to their portfolio of training courses. They liked the fact that it was presented on an e-learning platform giving the delegates the freedom to work through the course at their own pace and it also means there’s no waiting around for the next course intake.

After working through the approvals process the CTP added the Introduction-to-Rolling Stock course to their offer. This hasn't changed anything in the way of course content or quality, all it means is that it’s much easier for forces leavers to spend their MoD resettlement money to fund the course.

The course is priced in-line with The Individual Resettlement Training Costs (IRTC) grant meaning it’s fairly priced for people funding it with their own money and forces leavers have the option to fully fund the course using their IRTC grant.
